As a dairy free gal, I don’t eat pizza very often because it quite the task to find a place that has dairy free options other then and places where those options are actually good. I have had some luck over the years at a few places, but there has been one clear winner and it is my newest restaurant fixation.

Dicey’s Tavern is a thin crust, party style pizza joint located in the WEHO neighborhood of Nashville. Open for less than a year, Dicey’s is a great airy venue with huge garage doors for the warmer month that makes it feel nice and open. They boast a pretty big menu with happy hour deals Monday-Friday. I have found Dicey’s to be a great dinner spot, but also the perfect post-concert or late-night pizza joint since they are open till ten on weeknights and midnight on the weekend. Dairy free or not, Diceys is an amazing pizza tavern serving up classics pies along with unique ones you may not find anywhere else and needs to go on everyone’s list of pizza places in Nashville.

Dicey’s menu has a handful of offerings ranging from starters, to sandwiches, to salads, to pizzas. None of the sandwiches or starters are plant-based so I have not tried them, but they all look amazing. Their simple on the side salad was as the name says quite simple, but hit the spot. I somethimes think a basic house salad is not worth getting because it is so simple, but this one was exceptional and a great appetizer for pizza.

The first pizza I tried is there vegan specialty pizza called the Earth Crisis. It is their classic perfectly thin and crispy pizza crust topped with tomato sauce, eggplant, roasted onions, chili flakes, basil, lemon, and olive oil. This is a cheese-less pizza which normally is not my jam, but all of the ingredients worked really well together to create a delicious flavor and I didn’t feel like I was missing the cheese at all.

If you are just not willing to have no cheese on your pizza I want to say first, I completely understand and second, there are many other options for you. One of my friends got the Calabrian Vodka pizza when I was with her (and every other time she goes) and swears by it. So if you are not of the dairy intolerant type, this one comes highly recommended. Along with their curated specialty pizzas, they offer a build your own pizza option. You can choose from nine inch or fourteen inch and then add all the toppings from there. They do offer a vegan cheese and last time I went, I split a fourteen inch custom pizza with gluten free crust (only available in the larger size) and vegan cheese along with a bunch of veggies. while I don’t know which vegan cheese they use, it was really great taste and texture wise.

The food not only tastes amazing, but is priced fairly as well. Pizzas start at eleven dollars for a small and go up based on which specialty pie you choose or what toppings you put on the build your own. The Monday night I went, they had a special where you could get two small pizzas for twenty bucks. This is just one of their many deals that they offer throughout the week so make sure to checkout their socials and website for more information.

I am obsessed with dicey’s aesthetic. The outside has a huge vintage style sign and the front of the building is covered in large green and white stripes. The green theme is carried throughout the entire restaurant which I automatically love because it is chef’s kiss color and they execute it so well. Right when you walk in, you are greeted by the host stand, the bar, and a fridge of their natural wines. Amazing vibes right off the bat. There is a skeleton riding a motorcycle, perfectly matched art covering the walls, and pizza boxes all round that really add to the aesthetic. There is a main dining room with red, yellow, orange, and green booths lining the wall and wooden tables spread throughout. This then connects to an outdoor dining area and a patio of picnic tables with the cutest striped umbrellas all covered by string lights. Everything here was clearly handpicked and perfectly placed to create the ultimate hip pizza tavern vibe.

Every time I’ve gone to Diceys, I have been seated immediately. To be fair, I have only gone on a week night or late on the weekend so this may not be true during weekend dinner. Since the space is quite big I can’t imagine the wait ever gets too long though. The waiters have always been nothing but nice and I appreciate how accommodating they are for allergies/restrictions.
